I joined Kiwanis because I have spent much of my life supporting children, including many years teaching Religious Education. I love nothing more than making others smile, especially children.
When I learned that Kiwanis is all about serving kids, it was a no-brainer β I knew it was for me. I also love volunteering, serving others, and being part of something that makes a difference in our community.

KCSK Meeting Highlights
August 19, 2026
We had 11 members and 2 guests join us at todayβs Kiwanis Club of Siesta Key meeting!
Our guest speaker was Brian Callahan, board member of the Jazz Club of Sarasota. Brian gave a wonderful presentation about how this nonprofit, which has been part of the Sarasota community for 46 years, supports local jazz musicians, music education, and student scholarships. It certainly sounds like they have a lot of fun while supporting a great mission! π·πΆ
Our club also received puzzle-piece coaster gifts from Governor-Elect Kerri Gordon in recognition of our Caring Corner donation, which our club made early.
For more information about the Jazz Club of Sarasota, contact Brian at BrianRCallahan@gmail.com.
Meeting Change:Beginning in September, we return to our regular meeting schedule: the first three Wednesdays of each month, with our club social on the fourth Thursday.
Membership:We are currently 37 members strong, and our President-Elect has set a goal of welcoming 10 new members in the coming year. By working together, inviting others to learn more about Kiwanis, and sharing the great work our club does, we can make it happen!
Key Club:Riverview High Schoolβs Key Club held its first meeting of the school year with an amazing 60 students in attendance β at 7:00 AM! What a great start to the year!
Congratulations also to Christina Kozman, the new Florida District Key Club Governor for 2026β2027!
Book Kitting:Septemberβs book kitting may be moved, to the second Wednesday of the month due to speaker scheduling. This would be a one-time change for September only. More information will be shared once the date is confirmed.

π Exciting news for the Kiwanis Club of Siesta Key! π
Our club is excited to continue the Literacy Buddies program, now as KCSK Literacy Buddies, in partnership with the Sara De Soto Chapter, DAR.
Kiwanis will buddy with the children at Bizzy Bee 2, while DAR will buddy with Bizzy Bee 1. Shawna and Kimberley will co-chair the program. The principals at both schools are very excited to welcome Literacy Buddies back!
This program will serve the Junior classes, ages 2β3. Each child will be matched with one buddy for the school year and will receive four books, helping them begin building their own home library. Along with our RLDS program, children across both age groups will have the opportunity to receive books throughout the year.
Program materials were delivered to the schools today, and buddy assignments will be coming soon. Our first book delivery will take place in October!
LAST DCM of the Year: Shawna, Mary-Lynn, and Kimberley represented our club at the Division 17 meeting. Lots of great things are happening throughout the division, including discussion about possibly holding a Taste of Kiwanis event in the future.
Next Road Clean-Up: Saturday September 12, sign up on ClubRunner if you would like to join in on the fun.
Breakfast with Santa: A change may be coming for this yearβs Breakfast with Santa as we look at ways to make the event more accessible and convenient for our school families and club members. More information to come! π
